Investigating Litres

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

It was a beautiful morning when we decided to go outside to investigate litres.  We had litre jugs and a range of different sized containers.  We sorted the containers into ones that we thought would hold about a litre, about half a litre and about a quarter of a litre.

We then took our jugs and a collection of containers and measured how much water would fit in each.  We worked that out in different ways.  Sometimes we poured from the jug, then looked at how much was left in the jug to work out how much was in the container.  Sometimes we poured the water from the container into an empty jug.  We did find some surprises!

What was one thing that surprised you when you were measuring?
Did you work out how much was in the container in a different way to the two that are mentioned?
