Fraction pizzas

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Fractions… they are tricky things! To introduce fractions to the Year 2 champs, pizza making (and cutting) was the way to go one day last week. A big thank you goes to Mrs Buckland-Watts and Mrs Wakka for coming in and helping us.  Here are some recounts written by the children about the experience:

Yesterday we made pizzas after recess.

First, Mrs W handed us out pieces of paper. We went into groups. My group was me, Brielle, Mitchell K and CJ. We cut the paper into 1/2. Then Mitchell K handed us out the 1/2 pieces of paper.

Next we got a knife and we cut the real pizzas. We got two pieces each.

Then we put our topping on my pizza. I had tomato paste, cheese, ham and pineapple.
Next we put it in the over all ready to eat.

It was yummy.

Yesterday we learnt a bit about fractions with pizzas.

First Mrs Wolfenden gave us a circle piece of paper.  We cut it into eighths.

The Mrs Wolfenden gave us the dough.  I put chicken, tomato paste, capsicum and tomato on the pizza.

After that I helped carry the pizza into the over with my mum and other people.

Eventually we ate it after lunch.  Some people ate theirs at home.

On Thursday the whole class got paper.  It was the shape of a circle.  We had a circle of paper because we were doing fractions.

First we cut the paper shape.  It went snip, snip, snip.  We cut it in eighths and everyone had to put the eights on the pizza.  Then we took turns cutting.

Then we decorated the pizza.  I put tomato sauce on, then I rubbed it with a knife.  Then I put some cheese and pineapple.

Then Mrs Wolfenden put it in the oven.  After we ate it.  It was yum!
