Playing Pig – mental computation game

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

We have been playing Pig in class.  We don’t know why the game is called that, but it is a lot of fun.  And sometimes it’s frustrating too!  Here’s how you play:

  •  You need a partner, 2 dice and something to record on.
  • The first player rolls both dice and adds them together.  He then writes the answer on a whiteboard. For example, 2 + 5 = 7.
  • The same player rolls again, adds the two dice and adds the answer to the number he has already recorded.
  • This same player keeps going until he rolls a 1.  Then his turn is finished.  Too bad if you roll a 1 on the first roll!!  It’s over to the other player then.
  • If you roll a double 1, disaster!  Your score goes back to zero.
  • The winner is the person with the highest score when it’s time to finish.

What do you like best about playing Pig?

Have you ever rolled a double 1?  How did you feel about that?
