Smarties for my Smarties

Using Smarties for fractions – what a great way to learn.  And yes, the boys got to eat the Smarties at the end too.  Here’s what they did:

First they estimated how many Smarties they thought would be in their Smartie box.  Then they counted them and wrote down the actual amount.

Then came the graphing.  The boys used graph paper to record the amount of each colour that was in their box.

Lastly (and in the last few minutes of the day) they recorded the fraction of each colour that was in their box.  Lots of work in a very short period of time, but lots of fun was had by everyone, as you can see in the photos below.
