Armadale History Excursion

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The Year 2 champs visited Armadale yesterday to have a look at some of the history of the area.

We started off by doing a history walk.  Hazel, from the Armadale History House, showed us around.  We saw the old school house, the original church and some other important buildings.  We walked past Neerigen Brook which was the original water source for the pioneers of Armadale.

Then we went into the History House.  We had to hunt for items from clues or photos and try and work out what they were used for.  There was a big grinding stone.  Reuben thought it would have been used for sharpening things.

We also visited the Morse Codians.  These men talked to us about Morse Code, a way of communicating across long distances by code.  One of the men tapped out our names on the Morse Code machine and another man listened to the code and then typed our names out.  Pretty clever!

What was something you learned at the excursion?  What did you enjoy doing the best?
