We have continued our work on fractions with a whole lot of different activities. We have learnt that 1/2 means one out of two equal parts and that 1/4 means one out of four equal parts. Some of us still aren’t so sure what a quarter is, so these activities have been designed to help our understanding.
We split the following things into halves and then quarters:
Pieces of card
Playdough, using the balance scales
Coins
Counters
A quantity of rice
Oranges
We also had to work out how many whole oranges a bowl of quarters would make.
