Mirror

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Jeannie Baker’s wonderful picture book, Mirror, has provided us with lots of fun activities recently.

We started off with some prediction.  Who were the boys sitting at the windows on the front and back covers?  What did they like to do?  What did they see from their windows?  Georgia’s work below shows some of the writing that came from our predicitons.

After we’d  read the book, we investigated Morocco.  We learnt that it is a country in Africa.  Marrakech is a city in Morocco.  We then looked at some travel brochures to see the sorts of things that were included and to see what type of language was used.  After that, we made our own travel brochures, aimed at persuading people to visit the market place in Marrakech.  Below you can see Jack’s brochure.

Photographs of our own faces gave us the opportunity to investigate symmetry.  We cut each face in half and then mirrored it – drew in the other side.  Here are some of us:

A carpet is a focal point in Mirror, so we made our own magic carpets and sat them on a desert background.  Then we used green screen technology to show us sitting on our own magic carpets.  Such a lot of fun!
