Making Connections

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Making connections with a text can give readers deeper comprehension.  We have been working on this important reading strategy in class over the last two weeks.  We have made the following types of connections:

Text to text connection, where we are reminded of another book, movie or other text

Text to self connection, where we are reminded of something we have experienced ourselves

Text to world connection, where we are reminded of something in our world.

We read and discussed the poem, Free Wheeling on a Bike by Robert Gray.IMG_1895

We talked about times that movement and sunshine had made us feel really good, making text to self connections.  The children then created artwork to match their thoughts, and wrote their own poems, using the same structure as Free Wheeling on a Bike.

Please enjoy these poems and the art work produced by our very clever Year 2 champs.
