Array Cities

We have been using arrays to help us multiply, using some of the equipment in the classroom.  Here is some art work to help us consolidate the concept.  Can you see the arrays on the buildings below?  Can you tell the multiplication problems that could be worked out from some of these arrays?

Thanks to Looking from Third to Fourth and Teaching with Moxie for their ideas.

Can you explain what an array is and how it works?

    Dear 3/4 superstars,

My name is Maya and I am also in a 3/4 class and I am in year 4.
Our class is very excited about your comment on our 3/4 blog and we would like to find out more about you and more things that your doing in class. I admire your array buildings and like the way that you were creative and used building windows, earlier this year we were also working on arrays but did’nt think of using towers and city’s.

Thank you for commenting on our blog, we are hoping that we can have more conversations with one another by using our two blogs maybe we can have our own blog buddies!

This is some wonderful array work. We like to use arrays to tell stories about equal groups of things. For example, If I have eight horses and they are standing in two fields, how many horses would I have altogether? Picturing something real in our heads helps us think deeper about the numbers!

    Sincerely,
