Well, it’s 2013 and there is a new class of Superstars. We have had a great start to the year and everyone seems to be very settled (including the teachers!).
We will be learning about some of our local history this year. Mrs Wolfenden has gathered a few objects from the past (with thanks to the Gosnells museum) and we are trying to guess what they are. Have you worked out what any of them are?
Mrs Wolfenden knows what most of the artifacts are. But there is one even she is not sure of. Can you help? What do you think this object is?

I’m really hoping that someone will be able to help me with this object. Please add your comments below.

Hi Mrs Wolfenden,
I think the mystery object is a pump.

Hi Mrs.W,
I think it is a grape squeezer
from chatel
Dear Chantel,
I hadn’t thought of that. But how would the grapes get into it?
From Mrs W.
Dear Mrs W,
My dad thinks it is a cheese maker.
From Mia
I think it is a door opener because has a handle.
I think it is 90 years old, because it is RUSTEY.
Dear Mrs.W,
I really enjoyed reading this post! I think it is some kind of pump. My grandmother owns an antique shop so I really enjoy looking at things like these and seeing if i have seen them before in her shop! She has a typewrither, a lanter , and a whole buch of other things that you have your pics! Have you ever heard of the show “Antique Road Show”?
Sincerely,
Kaity

Dear Kaity,
Thank you for your comment. It’s the first overseas one that we have received so far this year. The new Superstars are just learning how to blog, so your comment is a great example of a good quality comment.
No one here has seen the show, Antique Road Show. Mrs Wolfenden has heard of it but not actually seen it.
Say hello to the rest of the Techie Kids for us.
Mrs W and the Year 3 Superstars
Dear Mrs.W,
Thank you so much for responding to me! I think it is cool that I am the first student that you and your students blogged with outside of Australia! It is Winter here in Michigan and our school has had four snowdays so far this year! We have a some posts about our weather here on our website if you and your class want to come and check it out. We’d love to hear about the weather in your area. It would help us learn more about different places. Thank you again for responding.
Sincerely,
Kaity from Techie Kids
Dear Kaity,
The Superstars love the idea of a snowday! Unfortunately, it doesn’t EVER snow in Perth, so we never get snow days. It is Summer here at the moment and it has been VERY hot!!! It has been up to 40C which is over 100 degrees F. Over half our class have swimming pools at home, so they have been spending a lot of time in their pools. We will be having a look at your website soon.
From Mrs W and the Superstars.
Hi Kaity,
I like your comment. Sometimes I talk about the weather. In Australia it is hot and bothering.
From Mia
Dear Mia,
It is kind of funny to hear that you guys have really hot weather when we almost had a snow-day today I think comparing weather from two very different places is interesting to do because you get how different the climate is in the two places. Thank you for liking my post!
Sincerelly,
Kaity From Techie Kids
My Dad thinks it is a hand pump used in wells!
From Georgia,s dad!
Hi Everyone,
Thank you for trying to help me work out what this object is. Mrs Heal looked at it on Tuesday and knew straight away what it was for. I don’t know how she did that!
Anyway, if any of you have self-closing doors, look at the bit that makes them close. If you don’t have one, we’ll have a look at the classroom door on Monday.
Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow.
From,
Mrs Wolfenden
Dear Mrs W,
I know what the mystery object is, my Dad looked at the picture and he said it is a hydraulic cylinder like in a door closer. My Mum googled it and found it here http://www.artfact.com/auction-lot/19th-century-newman-sons-brass-and-cast-metal-h-1429-c-50df5f38ad. It is very old.
Then we read the blog…
We had fun looking for it
